Custom Slr Camera Glide Strap |
Custom Slr Camera Glide Strap
I’ve been using a BlackRapid Strap with my Canon 7D for a year or more, and while I love the sling-strap concept, the shoulder pad of the R-Strap cut into my shoulder and would slip, so I’d have to keep readjusting it is I saw the Custom SLR Split Strap on Kickstarter and became a backer there.
When I obtained the strap, I was delighted to find that it worked with the BlackRapid camera fastener and that it was comfortable and didn’t slide around. The neoprene pad material with the split genuinely hugs the shoulder and makes the camera feel so much lighter.
As the product description states, when you purchase the Glide Strap it does NOT include the piece that screws into your camera’s tripod socket. As I cited above, it will work with the BlackRapid fastener and probably most others, but Custom SLR sells their own C-Loop Camera Strap Mount which I like better as it has a ball-bearing swivel. The Glide Strap works a bit better with the C-Loop because of the two strap attachment points instead than the one of the BlackRapid.
Another thing I like is the quick-disconnects, both among the strap and the shoulder pad, and between the gliding piece and the attachment to the camera. Each of these is rugged and won’t unfasten on it is own, and they make using the camera both with and without the strap easy.
Camera straps are one of those things that you have to wonder why they haven’t evolved. One may even query if the makers of them genuinely do any actual field testing of them thenselves. Having worn my camera strap that came with my NIkon D700 with the 14-24mm wide angle lens on a trip to NYC for a day, I may safely tell you I doubt they do. Even with a 50mm lens it becomes a strain around your neck. Granted the Nikon D700 is not a light camera body, even the smaller consumer DSLRs may feel like a burden for the average photographer when out taking photos after a while.
Two years later I stumbled across so some fellow enterprisers who wanted to evolve the way cameras are handled in the field. While surfing Engadget.com I saw the first product Custom SLR was launching called the C-Loop, which can be purchased along with the Glide Strap. They were looking for funding by way of Kickstarter.com and I liked the idea so much I invested in them like so some others. When I obtained it I could tell Custom SLR was serious in regards to their end product, and I had no hesitation in supporting the Glide Strap.
The glide strap has a professional build quality which makes it very sturdy and rugged. Yet the soft foam texture feels like something you would want to lay down on. This is ideal as it makes for a strong yet comfortable, well padded strap that invites you to touch its The clips that attach the rest of the strap lock and stay very secure. So much so that you can’t without apparent effort press the release button and open it by mistakes This assists keep a sound mind that no one can bump into you or attempt to press the clips and snatch the camera from you in a crowd. Though it is still a good idea to keep a hand on you instrumentation while determining the direction of travelling of crowds.
With the strap place diagonally across your torso you will be surprised how the weight of the camera disappears different from with a strap around your neck. The camera no longer feels like a burden, and with the C-Loop attached the camera will rest comfortably along the side your hip. Just in reach of your hand.
The gliding aspect of the strap lets you to grab the camera and smoothly raise it up to your face without having to move or change the strap. permitting you to pull the camera rapidly up to your face to get that shot off in seconds. In most photographic moments that’s all the time you have before the shot is gone. Then when you are satisfied with the shot you can glide it back into it’s resting place, where it’s once again safely next to you in arms reach. It’s simple, talent and makes you wonder why no one thought of this before.
There is in addition a clip on the strap that when in the right manner positioned blocks the camera from gliding beyond that point, so the camera will never slide behind you along the strap. All of this makes for a outstanding shooting and determining the direction of travelling of experience, making the camera an extension of you and also allowing you to free up both hands to adjust a light and or umbrella.
It’s easy to see that substantial thought has gone into the functionality and longevity of this strap. Clearly a strap with the photographer in mind, that will give hope or courage to you to walk around with your camera a lot more. If there is any strap on the market that is better I have yet to experience it, and after using the Glide Strap for a while I can, and have highly recommended it to fellow photographers. Other than quality lenses this is a require to have in your camera gear list.
I found out with regards to this strap because of the kickstarter.com project. I thought that it was a swell idea and loved how it incorporated in with the C-loop. I use it nearly every time I use my DSLR. It feels sturdy however light weight. You can carry your heavy DSLR with any affixations without all the pain that a normal strap would. I will be buying another once I have another camera to use with it is LOVE this products
Bought this strap to replace my stock Canon 60D strap. Very happy with the consolation and comfort of applied I purchased this strap with the C-loop since you will need one to use with this strap. Lots of thought went into these products. The camera sits perfectly at my side and spins freely preventing tangles just advertised. I have employed this strap for many hours while wondering when it comes to San Francisco all while wearing a backpack and jacket. The camera was constantly ready when ever I necessitated it and out of the way when I didn’t. While going through crowds of persons at Pier 39 I had no concerns about my camera. I was capable to pull it forward in fron of myself to protect it from all the other tourist. It did seem to draw alot of attention from other DSLR owners who looked on with envy. This is a great combo (C-loop + Glide strap) and would recommend it to anyone looking for a better camera strap.
It does not come with everything needed to make this work. You need to purchase the c-loop for an extra $40. It shows the strap finish with everything needed to use as a glide strap, which is what the strap is made to do, but it does not come with everything needed. I don’t get the point at all of merchandising it without the c-loop. Pretty disappointing to have to spend an additional $40 just so it will work as pictured. Very misleading. I’m going to send it back. I can’t warrant spending a total of $80 for this strap. I will get one of the dual shoulder straps instead of this one. That seems more ergonomic to distribute the weight more evenly on both shoulders against one anyways.
SLR C-Loop mount and Pro Camera Split Strap
High marks for the strap, degrees and types of adjustment, but—–had they lengthened the attachment straps so as to be competent to secure them directly to the “eye” mounts on the ea sides of the camera, I would have been far more satisfied with this productions That is, alter the attachment straps and eliminate the over-engineered “cool” C mount entirely. Then, more ofttimes than not, the back of the camera would remain rather stabilized by two (versus one) attachment points on the camera and glide along the side of your body, versus this dangling pricy, swiveling/twisting one-point mount. A carabiner attached a belt loop lessens the loosey-goosey-bouncy dangling. My camera? Digital Nikon SLR, commonly with a mid-range zoom attached.
I did not rate the item on durability—the belt ought to last, can’t estimate metal fatigue, stability, etc. about the mount. The claim that silicon on the shoulder strap assists to keep it in place is nonsense–it could work in that regard, but as used here it provides fewer traction than adjacent surface areas. Bottom line, the relevance of all the all the high-end technology hype, etc. well, ——e.g., nice to recognise know know that the divice would hold were I to pull a car with this arrangement, but of fixed utility implication to me as a photographer.
After a lot of research I decisive to try he the “Glide Strap from Custom SLR.
As the design appears superior and the camera mount well made,
the unit described on their web site genuinely is a step toward improvement
of the single attachment point DSLR camera strap .
I wil post again after receipt of the item.
Very classy with NO visible logo, or camera name blaring
