Seventh Generation Clear Diapers Stage
Most of the reviews listed here on this product are from humans who are either mistakenly reviewing the “chlorine-free” not the new “free and clear” designed diapers (which have only been available starting March 2011), have only experience with formal brands (i.e. pampers, huggies, luvs, generic instead than this brand or other “green” brands), or “vine” reviews. For those who don’t know, “vine” is an amazon program that gives free productions in exchange for reviews. The only intention of the “vine” program is to promote new merchandise and market them to the public through “personal” reviews. It is all salaried for by the sponsoring company to see to it products come into the market with plenteous reviews posted.
As a parent, it’s hard for me to spend cash based on the views of an individual who has been remunerated to give their opinions on a certain product (also an individual who has no experience with that category of product – such as “green” diapers). Isn’t everything better when it’s free? I may think of numerous things I would’ve given a higher ranking to whether or not I wouldn’t have had to spend so much of my cash on them (think in regards to how much more felicitous you are with buying a fewer than quality product from the $1 store against the regular store). I’m not saying “vine” reviewers are lying, but there is a skewed sensing when it’s not your money you’re spending and I’m not more than willing to spend my hard earned dollars based on the persuasion of a person who was compensated in any way, including with free products.
I am posting my review because I am a mother of a diapered baby, who has applied this brand and other “green” brands for a long time, and I have utilized various packs of these new free and clear diapers. I am NOT a “vine” member, as you may see by my “Amazon verified purchase” label on my review. What follows is my HONEST opinion, unbiased, pure and fewer complicated

Here are the masters & cons I found with these new “free and clear” diapers:
**I am not a fan of the increased dusty sand stuff (SAP) that provides the absorption in these. whether or not you take place to tear a dry diaper and inhale the dust, you get a actually sore throat from the stuff. I don’t like that being on my baby. It absorbs more because it has more SAP gel inside and less wood pulp, this is as well why it is much thinner than former versions. SAP is controversial, you must exploration it to make up your own mind for your own child. Wikipedia has a good entry on how SAP is formulated and you can look up the chemical ingredients on EWG (cosmeticsdatabase.com) for toxicity info – mainly, the disputable ingredient in SAP is sodium hydroxide (lye) which causes serious chemical burns to the skin. However, galore SAP is present in virtually all disposable diaper brands (but not all is made from lye).
**We have had leaks at the stomach with our baby with during one night use and blowouts can happen at the legs because the elastic doesn’t have a long sufficient length to produce a proper fit for our baby. each baby is dissimilar and you’ll need to find which diaper design fits your child best at each staged For reference, our baby is tall and trim.
**The outside is not as soft and it looks like they are using less dye to make them brown because these are more tan in color. FYI – chlorine-free diapers are white when fictitious but seventh generation dyes the diapers to make them “natural” colored (this is in an open way listed in fine print on every every sizing is littler than most so you have to buy bigger sizes sooner. This ends up costing you more because you get more for your money with other brands that run larger and smaller sizes come in packs of more diapers.
**There is an foul odor with these diapers. This is not a problem with other diapers, not eco-friendly or otherwise, not certain why these ones smell but they do in comparison.
**I’m not certain what the other reviewer is referring to with the sticky tabs, there is no sticky portion on these diapers – it is like a type of velcro but not sticky like most other diapers. It works good for fastening, just the same (doesn’t stick to skin).
**I wish there was a size printed boldly on the diaper so I could without apparent effort sort out the diapers when my baby changes sizes and we have leftovers to give away.
Overall, I liked the previous version of these diapers best. For someone who is using a chemical doused established brand, I’m sure these are a step up. But for the rest of us who were already using this brand, this is a step down. More chemicals is not the way to go to be “eco-friendly” – whether or not I cant find the regular “chlorine-free” type and only the “free and clear” type are available for sale, we will use another brand.

Edit (5/5/11): I have found another diaper I would recommend. Amazon sells ‘Nurtured by Nature Environmentally-Sensitive Diapers’ which work much better, cost much less less cents each), and is more eco-friendly (made for the most part from corn plastic, not petroleum and has to the full or entire extent chlorine free certified pulp).
We have been ordering Seventh generation diapers in every size since our twins were born. I have to say that they have perpetually been fabulous. Most lately I went to get my shipment of size 6 on subscribe and save delivered to discover there was a newer version, the free and clear ones. I placed that order with no hesitation. I have to say they are a HUGE disappointment! They leak, badly. There is not as much absorbency with these at all and I am in truth bummed. I hope this is corrected. Honestly I am tempted to send them back they are so bad.
My daughter will be 2 in 3 days. I have had my daughter in generic diapers, Pampers, Huggies, you name it! I have never, and I mean NEVER had an issue with any of those diapers until this one. Within 4 diaper changes she was broken out. I don’t acknowledge why. She has no skin sensitivity to any other diaper or baby wipe. She rarely, if ever, suffers from diaper rash. I took her off of the diapers, put her back onto her Huggies, and the rash went away!
I have no idea why she broke out. This diaper is supposed to be free of everything….EVERYTHING! They felt like other diapers (some persons said they felt softer but I’m not buying it). They smelled free of perfumes but for a child to break out like that there has to be something in it.
I’d highly suggest getting one pack from a store and checking it out original before paying nearly forty bucks for a huge box. For a child who never reacted to even the cheapest WallyWorld brand to break out to this brand….something doesn’t smell right! pun intended.
I swopped to 7th Generation diapers in regards to a year ago when Pampers introduced their Dry Max diapers, resulting in a serious diaper rash for my then four month old. He’s now 17 months old.
When I heard that 7th Gen was coming out with a thinner diaper, I admit I was a small worried at first. Would my son get a diaper rash again? But when I tried them, I realized I had nothing to worry about. His skin is doing great, and they still hold up just as well as the older 7th Gen diapers did, even overnight.
I love these diapers. Between my Amazon Mom and Amazon Prime discounts, they’re even more cost effective than buying local to me or even “store brand” diapers. I commend them to all my friends.
I have looked at these diapers as an alternative to conventional disposables for sometime (day care won’t let us use our cloth diapers there). I have been skeptical of the Seventh Generation products because I didn’t want to pays for a product that was going to carry out poorly in comparison to my normal diapers (I have perpetually gone with Huggies Snug & Dry Diapers and have loved them). After using these diapers around the clock here are mine (and my wife’s) observations.
- Fit: They fit outstanding compared to the normal diapers we employed My daughter is 15 lbs and she fits snugly in size 2 (12-18 lbs) with no leaks.
- Smell: galore of the other reviewers complained regarding a weird smell, but we have both found that the mask the pee smell better than our general diapers
- Absorbency: These work great. We haven’t had any blowouts and we have had zero leaks with for the length of one night use.
- Irritation: We have noticed less annoyance and diaper rash as a result of these diapers.
- General comfort of use: I found them to be less bulky and posing no difficulty to put on than standard diapers. I in addition found that the baby had more room in her outfits without the normal bulk and she seems to be able to wiggle her legs more.
I rated them a 4 instead of 5 merely because of the pricey I am going to have a hard time justifying the further and added expenditure, but I do feel that Seventh Generation offers a superior product here is I will say that I was disappointed to find out that the off-white color is a result of dying and that they are still a bleached paper product (they just use a dissimilar chemical process – this is stated on the bottom of the bag).
The primary thing I noticed regarding these diapers are their softness, virtually like the old cotton diapers we applied to have to wash out by hand and reuse. “Wood pulp fluff” is what the company calls it and I call it amazing. Our granddaughter has had diaper rash troubles and we thought these just might be worth trying. How do they work? IN a word, G R E A T ! Seemingly more absorbent than ‘Huggies’ and a very good fit as well. The sticky tape works perfectly and even I had no problems altering these things. (arthritic and pushing 60)
Seventh Generation makes a big deal out of the fact the don’t use any more synthetic materials than is perfectly necessary, including not using chemicals such as chlorine to bleach the diaper material blanch I can’t say whether or not this has anything to do with our granddaughter’s rash improving or not, but there has unquestionably been an betterment since using these ‘Free and Clear’ diapers so perchance some of her problem has been due to a chemical sensitivity. Whatever the reason is, if something works better, we are going to use its GOOD STUFF!
We have been using Seventh Generation diapers since my 2-year old daughter was born. We loved them, and were completely satisfied. That is, until we got our regularly every month shipment of diapers from Amazon and came upon that our beloved “Chlorine Free” diapers were now called “Free and Clear,” and were totally different. We put my daughter in one last night and this morning it had leaked everywhere– a problem we never had before. At naptime today, the same thing happened. I’m done with these lousy, leaky diapers. They’re not as soft as the older version either, and are actually thin.
I’m bummed. I just cancelled my Subscribe and Save subscription and am scouring local stores and other online sites for the old ones (Babies R Us has them, for now) and am stocking up on as numerous of them as I cannot It’s too bad- they were so good before. Why alter a good thing?
I genuinely like Seventh Generation diapers. Basically for me they are the same as Pampers Dry Max but better for environment.
Stage 2 is the same size like Pampers Dry Max size 1 (Seventh Generation is a bit wider in waist area).
They have similar absorbency, thickness and feel (just light brown color instead of white).
With Amazon mom and Subscribe&Save program they cost almost the same (pampers dry max 0.15 versus seventh generation 0.17 cents per diaper).
Sometimes I had a leak problem with Pampers in the morning, always and only when I had my son in my arms while feeding. If he lays down when pooping than the weight of his body blocks the shooting poop and no leaks at all. Pampers worked for us but now I will switch to ecology option!
I have applied Seventh Gen diapers for my daughter for several months, and have loved them…until this new version. They are terrible! I have already had two major leaks and I rarely had that problem with the old version. I plan to switch to Earth’s Best, they aren’t as good as the old Seventh Gens but they are way better than these new ones. Now I am stuck with 3 1/2 packs of these aweinspiring ones.
Yes, it’s true. Seventh Generation has found a way to make chlorine free diapers that is also good for the environment. My son has sensitive skin, so Chlorine Free diapers are a must. I highly commend this product if you are looking for a way to reduce your carbon footprint and keep your kids comfortable and clean.
